Many of Nintendo's most iconic franchises, such as The Legend of Zelda and Metroid were started on the NES. Nintendo continued to repair Famicom consoles in Japan until October 31, 2007, attributing the decision to discontinue support to an increasing shortage of the necessary parts. In 1985, Nintendo announced that they were releasing the Famicom worldwide with a different design under the name the Nintendo Entertainment System . However, Nintendo hasn't had a consistent track record when selling consoles, as their experiments don't always work. But on the other hand, because Nintendo has a legacy, the reveals for their consoles have become a sight to see not just for Nintendo fans, but fans of other consoles as well. The Game Boy wasn’t the first handheld in the history of Nintendo consoles, as the Game and Watch showed. But it was exponentially more successful and laid the groundwork for Nintendo’s future handhelds to see similarly massive sales. The first console was already a commercial success, and the release of this follow-up in 1990 confirmed Nintendo's status as a household name and the unquestioned ruler of all home gaming. The Super Nintendo was the company's entry into the Bit Wars, a period when gaming went 16-bit, meaning enhanced graphics and speed. Nintendo's main competitor, Sega, used the 16-bit angle incessantly to market the Genesis.
Specifically, only Konami would have the rights to release games for the new system called Ultra Football, Ultra Tennis, etc. Therefore, in 1995 Nintendo changed the final name of the system to Nintendo 64, and announced that it would be released in 1996. They later showed previews of the system and several games, including Super Mario 64, to the media and public. However, while the NES made a huge splash upon its debut, it was not the first console Nintendo ever made. Before Samus was hunting down Mother Brain and before players were throwing controllers across the room trying to beat Mike Tyson in the original version of Punch-Out!! In March 2001, Nintendo introduced the Game Boy Advance, the first major technological upgrade in the Game Boy line.

It was launched in Japan on March 2, 2006, and three months later in North America and Europe on June 11 and June 23, 2006, respectively. Nintendo had begun development on a CD-ROM attachment for the SNES/Super Famicom. Its first partner in this project was Sony, which had provided the SNES with its SPC sound chip. Development on the Nintendo PlayStation CD-ROM add-on and SNES/SFC standalone hybrid console began. However, at the last minute Nintendo decided to pull out of the partnership and instead go with Philips, and while no CD-ROM add-on was produced, several Nintendo properties appeared on the Philips CD-i media console.
While Sony and Microsoft made overly expensive HD consoles, the Wii went for casual appeal. At $249, the Wii was cheaper than the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 by quite a bit. While Nintendo might not be perfect, they have one of gaming's most loyal fanbases and some of the best-selling consoles. The third Color TV-Game system came out less than a year after the previous console. The Color TV-Game Racing 112 replaced Light Tennis with a driving game.
The Truth About Nintendo's First Home Gaming Console
Nintendo's aggressive business tactics in Europe would catch up to them. The European Commission determined that Nintendo had engaged in anticompetitive price-fixing business practices dating at least as far back as the early 1990s. This resulted in a heavy fine being laid against the company — €149 million, one of the largest antitrust fines applied in the history of the commission. The Switch can stand on its own as a handheld device or be connected to a television in a more conventional console.
Wish it had some other classics like the first Contra, the first Double Dragon, Kung Fu and Super Tecmo Bowl.... Loving this product and definitely recommend to anyone looking to rekindle their childhood memories. Thanks to multiple revisions, the original Game Boy stayed on the market for over a decade.
